Fifty Fifty

A New Piece of Furniture for the University Courtyard at Hochschule Mainz

Our concept is based on the pattern created by the exposed aggregate concrete slabs laid on the ground, each measuring 500 mm x 500 mm. This grid was transferred onto a furniture structure. Due to the varying heights of the individual modules, *FiftyFifty* can be used, for example, as a stool, table, or standing table. It is intended to invite students and professors to work, communicate, and relax comfortably in the courtyard.

FiftyFifty consists of individual modules.

Each module has a base measurement of 500 mm by 500 mm. The height varies between 500 mm, 750 mm, and 1000 mm. The furniture is made of square steel tubing measuring 20 mm by 20 mm with a material thickness of 2 mm. For one module, four steel tubes are mitre-cut at the corners and welded together to form a frame. Between two frames, a connector is welded at each corner point. The steel is then galvanized. The modules are bolted together to form a furniture complex. The top surface is made from reclaimed pallet wood, which is glued together and then glazed. Afterward, the wooden panel is placed on top of the seating/working surfaces and screwed through the square steel crosswise.
